The Fifth Annual Phi Sig Golf outing turned out to be a great event.  Many thanks to the 16 golfers at Toftrees on Friday, the 27 golfers at Penn State’s Blue Course on Saturday and the nearly 40 people who attended the steak cookout and awards program at the House afterward.

This year we remembered Brother Jeff Peffer '78 who passed away last fall.  His wife, Sue and son, Andrew joined us for the event. Some of the award winners were: Ed Bridgens (low gross score and winner of the green jacket!), Matt Cowen and Rich Newell (closest to the pin) and Matt Cowen (longest drive).

Many Brothers contributed to the success of the event, including Alumni Board President Fred DeCock, cooks Doug Arnold, Tom Petka, Matt Cowen and Bruce Balmat and Jim Menoher for donating a number of prizes. A little rain did nothing to dampen our spirits thanks to tent-supplier Matt Hilbert, who also led the group in a rousing "Phi Sig Once" cheer.

We are looking forward to planning a bigger and better event next year. And for those who could not make it this year, we look forward to seeing you next year. We welcome more golfers, more helpers and more friends. Any alums who would like to be involved in planning the golf outing for 2016, please let Fred DeCock know. Getting a small committee working on it over the next year should help us plan, promote and organize it more effectively.

In addition, Brother DeCock has 20 dozen Phi Sig crest golf balls for sale. $30 gets you a dozen and $15 of that goes to our scholarship fund. In addition, Brother Bill DeGrandis has generously offered to match all purchases up to a total of $1,000. Get your orders in now! If you are local to Harrisburg, Fred would be happy to deliver them to you, or bring them to you at our work weekend scheduled for July 24-26!  Shipping is $5.95 via USPS Priority Mail for one dozen and $12.95 for up to six dozen. First come, first served. Help increase our scholarship fund, and spread the word about Phi Sig by leaving a few of these on your local course!

Ed “Golden Bear” Bridgens (above) was this year’s outing winner. Not only did Bridgens win the green jacket, he was also honored to wear the much revered “Jeff Peffer Memorial Pledge Intimidator” helmet.

Thanks again for a great weekend! Don’t forget to show up for our Kappa house work weekend July 24-26, 2015. The house looks great, and with your help can look even better!
